Wednesday night’s party on the Danforth was an absolute blast and last night was another great party night for us! Thanks to all the Bloor West-ers who came out in the rain last night to celebrate our spring/summer collection. After three parties in the last week, I think I am officially partied out! Well, for now ;)
Reading is a huge part of my summer. Our annual month in France in August is when I catch up on all the great books I hear about all year. Since summer is almost here, I thought we’d devote this week’s Style Fix to sharing our Summer Reading Guide. Plus, if the cool weather continues this weekend, I may have to recover from our party week by curling up with a good book. Happy reading to all. Enjoy!
I can't believe it's Friday already. The beauty of a long weekend is that the weekend comes quickly again. Today's cold snap is a blip – it'll be nicer on the weekend again, right?! I have been loving all the blossoms. Such a treat to smell lilacs again.
I've been spending more time on the floor at all three of our locations. I do love the behind the scenes design process but I also love connecting with the women that I'm actually designing for too (that's you!!). It's been great to reconnect with long-time Ziliotto "girls" and meet so many new ones. And, it's a pleasure to help out with fashion dilemmas - from dressing for a wedding when weather is unpredictable to advising on what to take on a long trip that works for city and country life and won't take up much room. Your challenges are what get my creative juices flowing and why I love my job. Keep em coming!
I'm so excited by the Spring/Summer collection. It feels like my very best ever. Cannot wait to see everyone at our upcoming in-store launch parties! [(click here to RSVP and to get all the details)](http://ziliotto.com/pages/2013-spring-parties)
Today's Style fix shows you how to "maximize" a maxi dress. Check out two very different looks you can add into your repertoire with this fashion essential. Enjoy!
I told myself I would stop blabbing about the weather but helloooooo... spring weather...where are you??!!
OK. So, what's a gal that's tired of waiting to do? Well, its absolutely time to put away the winter coats and pull out the raincoats. No puffy coats allowed - its almost May! Personally, I love to use a blazer with layers underneath as my jacket this time of year. It feels lighter and looks fresher. A pretty, colourful scarf and you're good to go.
Lately, we've had a lot of customers come into the stores in need of outfits for job interviews - from students who are interviewing for internships to mum's going back to work. I always suggest the pencil skirt. We've highlighted this fabulous staple in this week's Style Fix with some tips on how to do it up in different ways. Check it out. Enjoy!
I saw some daffodils on my run this morning - yay!! It is nice to have some green popping into our lives.
I know dressing this time of year can be challenging. For me, it's all about light layers and brighter colours. Yes, things are sprouting up but let's face it, its still a little brown out there. I find a beautiful scarf is an easy way to brighten up.
This week's style fix features the pocket dress. We are so excited to offer it in a gorgeous light denim this season. Check it out. Enjoy!
Thank goodness spring has arrived! Well, at Ziliotto that is (we are boldly ignoring reports of freezing rain and you know what)! Even if mother nature isn't fully cooperating, at least the days are longer and we all have more energy.
It's been an exciting couple of weeks. We are receiving clothes from our new collection and accessories every week. I've chatted with many of you who are in the midst of making over your closets for spring. I just love when the new pieces arrive and I can see how I can mix and match them with my old favorites. This week's Style Fix features The Julie Shirt, a new wardrobe essential that I think may be one of our most flexible and multipurpose and is a great way to spiff up what you’ve already got. Check it out. Enjoy!
I’m back from my sunny vacation. Don’t hate me for missing those flurries here on April 1st (what a cruel April Fools prank!). Today is beautiful and we are feeling brighter over here with the arrival of some of our Spring Collection. This week's style fix features the first piece from our new collection. The preppy dress is a must-have staple that you can wear all spring and summer. Slip it on and channel your inner Gwenyth as Margot Tenenbaum! Check it out. Enjoy!
This past winter I've been spreading my culinary wings so to speak and trying a lot of new recipes. I love to cook and I have tried a lot of new things from sauces to soups and it's been really fun. Last week, Maxime was telling me how much he loves bed & breakfasts because you get to choose what you want to eat. So, to make our March Break "staycation" a bit more festive, I did a bed & breakfast at home. I set the table nicely and made a cute little menu and let them all choose their breakie. Of course, I was unorganized so my fluffy waffles turned into buckwheat waffles - no flour, ugh!!! I'm notorious for missing an ingredient just when I'm going to make something. Anyway it was a lot of work but fun!
While I love to cook, I do also love to go out for dinner as long as it inspires me and is something I feel I can't do at home. If you are like me and spending your March Break in town, getting out to a hot new restaurant or visiting an old fave is the perfect treat. This week's Style Fix features my personal favorite restaurants in T.O. Hope it inspires you to get out and give yourself I night off in the kitchen. Enjoy!
What a crazy, messy day out there. Clumps of slush are literally falling from the sky. Makes one yearn for March break, which is closer than you think. This week’s Style Fix is all about getting you thinking about warmer weather. I know a lot of you will be heading down south for a little sun break (jealous!) so we have some tips for how to make your wardrobe work for a warm weather vaca.
I should really practice what I preach to you guys. Here I’m telling you Spring is almost here (which it is) and last weekend, I had the brilliant idea that our whole family should buy new skates and embrace an iconic Canadian outdoor winter activity. Well, all the outdoor rinks officially closed after family day weekend! Again, the good news is this really does mean warm weather is coming. But, now I’m going to have to figure out public skating at indoor rinks because I know these new skates won’t fit the kids next year. Argh!
For those of you that are staying in town throughout March, I suggest getting out and about to a new restaurant. My friend Nadege and I were chatting the other day about the crazy amount of new restaurants opening in Toronto. She loved her recent dinner at the Michelin-starred Café Boulud at the newly reno-ed Four Seasons. And, I just ate at the newly revamped Batifole and it was absolutely delicious! Let me know if you’ve tried any new and fabulous restaurants.
Hope today’s Style Fix brightens your slushy day. Check it out. Enjoy!
Well, I’ve been in major Downton Abbey withdrawal. Why do tv seasons have to be so short? They should at least be as long as our winters! My friend, Anne, suggested I read a little Jane Austen to cure my ache for more Abbey and I’m going to give it a try. I just finished Anna Karenina and thoroughly loved escaping into that time and place in history. I wanted to read it before I check out Keira Knightley as Anna on the big screen. From the trailer, the costuming looks pretty unbelievable (guess that’s why it’s up for an Oscar for costume design!). Cannot wait to see the film.
With Sunday being the Oscars, we’re devoting this week’s style fix to my top five films with fabulous fashion. Check out my picks for films with truly memorable and inspiring attire. I’ll be tuning in Sunday night to check out the red carpet hits and misses but I am looking for suggestions of what to serve. Do I go decadent and glamourous? Or, maybe a macrobiotic meal as an homage to Gwenyth? Kale juice anyone? Send me your suggestions. And, if you watch the Oscars, send my your thoughts on who looked the best. With everyone having stylists, I find the red carpet has gotten a bit boring and predictable. I’m hoping someone will take a risk and shake it up this year.
Hope you all had a LOVE-ly Valentine’s Day. I think it’s a great celebration. Bruno brought me a beautiful bottle of white wine. The kids had adorable artwork for us. I love hearts. I love to love! And, there’s chocolate too!! Plus, once Valentine’s is over, it means spring is coming soon.
Speaking of spring coming soon….new spring clothes have arrived in our stores!!! Two of my favorite Ziliotto basics—the tunic top and tunic dress—are back for spring in navy and raspberry. Navy is always a sharp and fresh way to transition away from all our winter black into early spring mode. The navy dress looks super cute with coloured tights. And, the raspberry pieces are pure fun. My heart actually does a little skip when I walk in the store and see the pop of fresh colour and sweet sight of warmer weather clothing.
This week’s style fix is something fun—how to look good in photographs. Who doesn’t want that? Check out my tips for looking like fabulous you (maybe even better!) in your next batch of instagram uploads. Enjoy!
P.S. Thank you to all of you who helped to make the Queen of Hearts event so successful last weekend. And, thank you for all the birthday wishes too ;)
